On Wednesday, April 21st, 2021, around 6:30 a.m., a woman was killed in a fatal hit and run accident. The Chatham County Police Department was sent to investigate the crash that morning on Highway 17, near the Ogeechee Road Walmart.
According to the investigation, Darlene Griner, 43, was crossing the southbound lanes of State Route 25 (Ogeechee Road) when she was struck. When police arrived, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Robespier Landa Arollo, 45, left the accident scene. He drove south and parked behind a business where an unknown individual picked him up. Arollo abandoned the car and was driven to his sister-in-law's house, the vehicle's true owner, who then called authorities to report the accident.
Troopers drove Arollo back to the scene of the crash, where he admitted to hitting Griner. He did cooperate with the authorities. Arollo was arrested and charged with driving while unlicensed and felony hit-and-run.
The Brown Firm sends its deepest condolences to the family of Darlene Griner.
